WHY WE LOVE IT
The Rolex Submariner is a classic, and there’s good reason why almost every collector winds up with a vintage Rolex sports model in their stash - these are timeless, tough, do-anything, go-anywhere tool watches.
Rolex has been producing Submariners uninterrupted since the watch was introduced in 1953, and while those first Big Crown subs are truly incredible pieces, most of us will have to wait for our lottery numbers to hit to get one of those strapped to our wrist.
This particular example dates to circa 1985 and represents the end of an era. It features the 39mm Oyster case with 'holey-lugs' that we all love, a deep glossy black dial with applied white gold indices filled with Tritium, a matching handset, a domed acrylic crystal, and a solid link Oyster bracelet with a signed fliplock divers clasp.
While not for everyone, these last few years of the 5513s with the combination of gloss black Tritium dials and acrylic crystals strike a very cool balance between old and new as Rolex began to usher in gloss dial with gold indices into the entirety of their line.
While the word 'iconic' is wildly overused these days - the Submariner deserves the moniker more than any other. This one is no exception.
OVERALL CONDITION
The case is in excellent condition overall showing professional refinishing and normal signs of wear consistent with age and use. Gloss black Tritium dial is in fantastic condition overall, with no signs of 'spidering' with matching handset. Signed Triplock crown.
