WHY WE LOVE IT
–
Few watches make a statement like a solid gold sports model Rolex.
This anachronistic blend of technical design and functionality with a precious metal casing material is a polarizing one, and depending on how its worn (and indeed, by whom), can send very different signals - and we'll just leave it at that. Of course, if you want to avoid any possible negative stereotyping, going with a vintage model will certainly alleviate the concern!
But don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because its vintage it isn’t bomber. The first thing you’ll notice about a watch like this is the weight. There is something instantly satisfying about the heft of a solid gold watch. And for some inexplicable reason, Rolex gold is so much more satisfying than all other gold. There's no science behind that statement - just trust us.
This particular model, a GMT-Master Reference 1675/8 'Root Beer', dates to circa 1976 and features a rich chocolate matte 'nipple' dial with beautifully aged Tritium luminous plots, a lightly brown bezel insert showing a light and even fade, and a matching yellow gold Jubilee bracelet with s blade clasp.
This is a stunning example of one of the earliest solid gold 1675 models, ready for daily wear and the jet-set lifestyle for which it was originally intended!
