WHY WE LOVE IT
–
We've said it over and over again - the Datejust may just be the perfect watch.
Coupling perfect proportions, simple dial layouts, and robust movements, Rolex's most prolific model is an icon of timekeeping that has been in continuous production for decades. Moreover, the Datejust is all the watch that just about any of us really need.
Solid gold Datejusts, however, are pretty rare.
Early solid gold Datejusts? Extremely rare.
Built in very small numbers so as not to compete with the "Big Brother" Day-Date, precious metal clad Datejusts have been around since they were introduced in 1945, but are scarcely found on the market today. We jump whenever we find a clean one, but locating a solid example is becoming more and more difficult.
This particular piece, an early Reference 6075, dates to circa 1953 and is easily one of the more beautiful References that we have ever offered. Featuring the 36mm Oyster case that we all know and love, this piece is finished in 18k yellow gold and stainless steel with an engine-turned yellow gold bezel, a gorgeous patinated dial with applied indices and a matching Dauphine handset, a framed date window with a roulette wheel, and a robust and reliable automatic-winding movement within.
While remaining incredible versatile as all Datejust are, this outstanding piece flies under the radar and epitomizes the phrase, "if you know, you know..."

White Radium dial with applied 'fancy' indices remains in good condition overall, showing deep patination throughout and even patination to luminous elements with matching 'alpha' handset.
