WHY WE LOVE IT
Think Cartier watches begin and end with the Tank?
Well, you might be right. But in between Tank and Tank are an entire host of models are references that are brimming with creativity, beauty, and opulence. One of the more subdued among these is the Escalier, a round design that takes its inspiration from a timepiece dating to 1910. Called simple ‘Montre Ronde a Escalier’ — ‘round watch with steps’ — it’s a strikingly simple design that served as the basis of the Vendome line launched in the 1970s. Of course, it still looks beautiful today.
Housed in a 32mm yellow gold case with a mineral crystal, an unsigned crown, and a polished, stepped bezel, it features a non-luminous, satin silver dial with black painted ‘Roman’ indices, a blued steel ‘sword’ handset, and an outer ‘railroad’ minute track. Powered by a manually wound movement, it comes paired to a brown leather strap with a yellow gold deployant clasp.
Elegant and restrained, this Escalier is the perfect dress watch for a man or a woman. Snag it before somebody else has the same thought!
