WHY WE LOVE IT
There’s a reason why the 16750 has a cult following among GMT-Master collectors: Rolex took the nearly-perfect Reference 1675 (in continuous production for decades), kept the black dial, hands, tritium lume and case, and souped it up under the hood. Hard to go wrong with a recipe like that.
The Reference 16750 GMT-Master is what’s known as a ‘transitional’ model by Rolex collectors today. Early versions boasted a matte dial, like the Reference 1675. However, after a few years Rolex transitioned to a glossy dial with white gold surrounds on the hour markers. This was the same type of dial that was carried over into the modern GMT-Master II references.
This particular example dates to circa 1984 and features a professionally refurbished holey lug Oyster case, housing a glossy black dial with applied Tritium-filled white gold indices, a matching handset, an acrylic crystal, a bidirectional rotating bezel with the undisputedly iconic 'Pepsi' insert, and a solid link Oyster bracelet with a signed blade clasp.
It would be enough to enjoy this excellent example on its own, but this particular timepiece comes with its box, hangtags, and papers.
If you appreciate the functionality of a GMT-Master over a Submariner and are looking for a fantastic example of a somewhat overlooked Reference blending elements of old and new, you've got to give this one a look!
OVERALL CONDITION
The case is in excellent condition overall showing professional refurbishing and light wear from age and use. Gloss black Tritium dial with applied indices shows even 'spidering' and even patination to luminous elements with matching handset. Signed crown.
